About the Doctors

Dr. Kathy Arkwell

Dr. Arkwell grew up in an Air Force family. Her father was a Chief Master Sergeant. She graduated high school in Okinawa, Japan. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, graduating in 1976 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology. She attended Southern Illinois University School of Dentistry graduating in 1979 with a doctorate in dentistry. Her orthodontic specialty residency was completed in 1981 with a Master of Science degree at Washington University in St. Louis. She joined Dr. Grimm in 1981.

Dr. Arkwell is an accomplished airplane pilot and certified flight instructor with ratings in helicopters, hot air balloons and gliders. She also enjoys mountain climbing, skiing and running, and adventure travel.  She serves in her church by teaching Sunday School for children.

Dr. John Schuler

Originally from the Chicago suburb of Worth, Dr. Schuler attended Northern Illinois University, graduating Cum Laude with a degree in biology in 1979. He attended Loyola University of Chicago School of Dentistry graduating Cum Laude in 1983 with a doctorate in dentistry. Following graduation, Dr. Schuler was a general dental officer with the United States Air Force. Following his Air Force commitment, he maintained a private practice in general dentistry in Fort Myers, Florida. In 1991 Dr. Schuler attended the University of Louisville, completing a specialty residency in orthodontics in 1993 with a Master of Science degree. He joined Drs. Grimm and Arkwell in 1993.

Dr. Schuler is the author of numerous scientific articles on orthodontics, has published a book chapter on orthodontics and is an associate professor of orthodontics at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Schuler and his wife, Kathy Schuler, have two children, Ryan and Lauren. He is an outdoorsman whose hobbies and interests include flying, hunting and fishing.
